RENOWNED HARPIST RETURNS TO PERFORM AT VICTORY CHURCH

The Rotary Club Malta has chosen the Church of Our Lady of Victory, Valletta as the venue for another harp concert by the acclaimed international harpist, Silke Aichhorn.  This is being organised in collaboration with Din l-Art Helwa and a most beautiful programme has been selected appropriately for this historic place of worship which proudly contributes to 2018 and to Valletta as European Capital of Culture.  Music lovers will be able to enjoy, amongst others, not one, but two Ave Marias, that by Gounod and then by Caggini, the last arranged specially for this concert by Ms Aichhorn, the Intermezzo Sinfonico from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni,  Rimsky Korsikov‘s Scheherazade, Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune,  Grandjany‘s Fantaisie sur un thème de Haydn, and The Moldau by Smetana, in which the harpist truly displays her dextrous virtuosity.

Silke Aichhorn is one of the most requested European harpists who is a soloist as well as a performer in chamber formations. The public and critics alike widely applaud her concerts.  She is considered one of the few harpists who is very successful in presenting the harp as a solo instrument with a repertoire that ranges from early baroque to contemporary music.

A frequent guest on radio and television programmes, she also gives concerts all over Europe and has been invited to Hong Kong, Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Australia and the U.S.A., gives master classes and is invited as a jury member for harp competitions.

Until now she has recorded 24 CDs. In 2006 she founded her own CD-Label HÖRMUSIK.  In 2014 she had the privilege to play together with her flutist Prof. Dejan Gavric in a private concert for Pope Emeritus Benedikt XVI which was aired on Vatican Radio.

The concert takes place on Friday 2nd February, 2018 at 8 p.m.  at Our Lady of Victory Church, Valletta, which, with its perfect acoustics set below the magnificent ceiling paintings of baroque artist, Alessio Erardi,   provides a perfect setting for the heavenly music of Silke Aichhorn.  Proceeds from the evening will be dedicated by the Rotary Club Malta to Din l-Art Helwa’s ongoing restoration programme of Victory Church.  Tickets at €20 per person can be purchased via Din l-Art Helwa, by sending a remittance directly to Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita St, Valletta VLT 1123, or through the Our Lady of Victory Church by phoning Mr Mario Sciberras, Visitor Services Manager on 99637409.  This will be a most popular event and Din l-Art Helwa is grateful to the Rotary Club Malta and to its president, Professor Robert Ghirlando for making it possible.  For further information please email info@dinlarthelwa.org
