The Xagħra local council has urged the Mepa Appeals Board meeting on Friday to dismiss the appeal concerning the proposed development at the former Ulysses Lodge site, in Ramla Bay “and preserve this site of unique touristic and natural value”.

“The Ramla Bay and valley is a site of extraordinary beauty which must be enjoyed by future generations in its natural state. Therefore, the board must consider the global impact of the proposed development and reject it on legal and moral grounds,” the council said.

It urged the Prime Minister to take all the necessary measures to turn Gozo into an eco-island.

Last year the Mepa board revoked the permit for a tourist complex on the site on legal advice, a decision hailed by environmental NGOs.
