Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta will once again host the popular weekly lunchtime concert on Tuesday 8 October 2024 at 12:30pm organised by Barocco Foundation with the collaboration of Din l-Art Ħelwa.  Well-known baritone Ken Scicluna and talented pianist Elaine Mecieca will showcase the heroes and villains of Broadway classics and movies.

The timeless “Send in the Clowns” by Stephen Sondheim opens this captivating programme, followed by a journey of Man of La Mancha with Mitch Leigh’s powerful pieces, “Dulcinea and “I, Don Quixote”.  The intriguing programme continues with two enchanting pieces by Frederick Loewe, “I’ll Talk to the Trees” from Paint Your Wagon, a reflective and tender song about unspoken longing.  This will be followed by “Wand’rin Star”, also from Paint Your Wagon, a rugged and iconic number that evokes the wandering spirit of a restless soul.  Henry Mancini’s “Slow Hot Wind” will offer a contrast to the earlier selections with its jazz-infused melodies.

The programme continues to enthral with two beloved classics by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the sweeping and romantic ballad “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific, and the powerful and uplifting “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music.  Returning to the works of Frederick Loewe, Ken Scicluna will perform “If Ever I Would Leave You” from Camelot. The concert will then revisit Paint Your Wagon with the haunting and poetic piece “They Call the Wind Maria”.  The recital concludes with a stirring finale, beginning with Mitch Leigh’s iconic anthem “The Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha, followed by the dramatic song “Stars” from Les Misérables by Claude-Michel Schönberg.  This will be followed by the uplifting and timeless “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

More Heroes and Villains – characters from Broadway and the Silver Screen  -: will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 08th October 2024 at 12:30pm.
