Din l-Art Helwa’s first public lecture of the year is due to be held on Thursday 14th January, at 6 p.m. at 133 Melita Street, Valletta. This is being given by Dr. Charles Savona Ventura and is entitled ‘Medical Facilities for Seamen during the British Period: 1800 to 1979’.

 

Professor Charles Savona Ventura studied at St Aloysius College going up to the University of Malta where he got his Medical Doctorate; and the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. He obtained Accreditation Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and also became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the National Research Institute for Mother and Child in Warsaw. He furthered his studies in Medical Training at the Cliniques Universitaires St Raphael in Gasthuisberg in Belgium and at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists UK and Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

 

At present he is consultant i/c of Diabetic Pregnancy Joint Clinic at the Department of Health; Associate Professor and Head of Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Institute of Health Care University of Malta; Specialist Obstetrician-Gynaecologist in private practice. He serves as Honorary Chief Medical Officer to the special rescue group St Lazarus Corps, and as Hospitaller & Historian to the Priory of the Maltese Islands of the Military & Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem.
