Lunchtime Concerts at Our Lady of Victory Church, Valletta

Din l-Art Ħelwa announces the last Lunchtime concert of the Season by Kalypso Ensemble featuring Riccardo Rossano, violin, and Giacomo Cella, bassoon. Both musicians are full time members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. These lunchtime concerts, executed by quality musicians in the historic surroundings of Valletta’s oldest church, have gained much popularity during the Spring season. After a break during the hot Summer months, these Lunchtime concerts will be resumed in the Autumn.

Tickets at the door, against a donation of €8. Senior citizens and groups of more than 4 persons are kindly asked for a €5- donation. Funds are in aid of the Church’s restoration fund. For more info call: 99637409

BIOGRAPHIES

 

Riccardo Rossano started studing violin in Livorno, in the class of Annamaria Fornasier, where he received his diploma and the academic second level diploma in violin. Later he also studied with Chiara Morandi. He has worked with several Italian orchestras, including the “J Futura” of Trent, the “Ensemble Symphony Orchestra” in Massa Carrara, the orchestra of “Puccini Festival” in Torre del Lago, the orchestra “Opera Livorno “, working with conductors such as Bellugi, Dini Ciacci and Pinzauti. He played the solo violin of the soundtrack of films such as “Finalmente la felicità” by Leonardo Pieraccioni with music by Gianluca Sibaldi, “L’erede” by Michael Zampino and music by Riccardo Della Ragione and “L’ultimo Ultras” by Stephen Calvagnaand, music by Riccardo Della Ragione.

Giacomo Cella studied bassoon at Conservatiorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi of Milano, obtaining the master degree with full marks. Later, he pursued his postgraduated studies in contemporary chamber music at the Accademia alla Scala in Milano and in baroque bassoon with bassoonist  Alberto Grazzi.

He built up his orchestral experience playing in some italian orchestras like Orchestra Verdi di Milano, Milano Classica, Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestra Sinfonica di Savona, Orchestra Carlo Coccia di Novara, Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia and Orchestra dell’Università degli studi di Milano, collaborating with international world soloists and conductors like Wayne Marshall, Viktoria Mullova, Karl Leister, Mario Brunello, Enrico Dindo, Paul Badura-Skoda, Milan Turkovic, Gerhard Oppiz and many others.

He is actually member of Ensemble Algoritmo (Roma) and Ensemble Risognanze (Milano), two groups of contemporary music conducted by Marco Angius and Tito Ceccherini.
