SAT FEB 22ND: CONCERT TO CELEBRATE THE RESTORATION OF MATTIA PRETI’S MASTERPIECE AT SARRIA CHURCH, FLORIANA

Dear sponsors, members  and friends of Din l-Art Ħelwa,

At the small, exquisite Sarria Church, in Floriana, there are no less than seven splendid paintings executed by Mattia Preti, il  Cavaliere Calabrese. The most beautiful of these works, and also the one which has most suffered the ravages of time, is the  titular painting depicting a Madonna so delicate and humane she appeals to present day concept of female beauty.

In celebration of the 400th anniversary since the birth of Mattia Preti, Din l-Art Helwa last year commited to restoring this masterpiece in time for the 8th of December, feast of the Immaculate Conception.   DLH is extremely grateful to Shireburn Software Ltd for recognising the enormous value of Sarria’s titular painting and its richly carved frame and making this restoration possible as a project to mark the 30th year since the company’s foundation.

At the closing of the 400th anniversary celebrations since the birth of Mattia Preti and to mark the restoration of the Virgine Immacolata, Din l-Art Ħelwa has invited Kalypso Ensemble to play a string concert, entitled ‘Vivaldi celebrates Mattia Preti’, on Friday 22nd February,  at 1930 at Sarria Church , Floriana.   Do join us in this celebration, tell your families and friends and  book your seats  through the office  as the space is limited.   All proceeds from the concert will be dedicated to the restoration of another of Preti’s Sarria paintings, that of St Roque.

We hope to see you there in great numbers.
