Din l-Art Helwa will be celebrating the 400th Anniversary of St Mary’s Tower, Comino with an open weekend on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September.    The public will enjoy living history displays by the Historic Re-enactment Group of Malta and guided tours throughout will be given by Din l-Art Helwa volunteers between 11 and 6 p.m.  Admission is free of charge and donations for the upkeep of the tower will be gladly received.

St Mary’s Tower was built in 1618 during the reign of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt and it is thought that its design was by VIttorino Cassar, the son of Gerolamo Cassar, the architect who was responsible for the building of Valletta.  Standing high over Comino’s azure waters at 220 ft above sea level, it dominates the straits between Malta and Gozo and its 360 degree view from its roof is breathtaking.

We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate St Mary’s Tower with us during this open weekend.  To get there please do check the times of the public ferries from Cirkewwa or Marfa.
