Fours walks to discover a village – Naxxar

A new booklet entitled Naxxar – Four Walks to Discover a Village has just been published by Din l-Art Helwa in collaboration with Naxxar Local Council and is part of the series of illustrated booklets which the heritage organisation is producing to cover historic trails around Malta’s ancient towns and rural villages. The booklet is extensively illustrated in full colour with a detailed account on all the historical sites that can be seen when taking the routes outlined within. ‘Naxxar – Four Walks to Discover a Village’ was made possible by Palazzo Parisio and Gardens and AX Holdings.

The origins of the village are proudly introduced by the author, Paul Catania of Naxxar, who writes that the earliest signs of habitation go back to prehistoric times.

The first three walks start from the village square Pjazza Vittorja and take the reader through the main streets and picturesque alleys towards the old small hamlet of San Pawl tat-Targa and the famous cart ruts. Triq Santa Lucija in the village core has no less than 14 alleys along the way. The fourth walk starts from Burmarrad church to the country side leading to the Tal-Qadi temple, the Salina catacombs and towards Bahar ic-Caghaq. Copies of the booklet at e2.50 each may be obtained from the offices of Naxxar Local Council and Din l-Art Helwa.

This is the fourth booklet published by Din l-Art Helwa as part of its educational programmes to raise awareness on local heritage and the environment. The other booklets are about Mqabba, Birzebbuga and Vittoriosa.
