As part of Din l-Art Helwa’s regular series of monthly lectures, Dr Alan Deidun will be giving a talk ‘The Impact of Climate Change on our Marine Living Resources’, on Thursday 13th November at 18.00 hrs.

 

Whilst the effects of climate change on terrestial ecosystems are relatively well-documented, similar effects on our living marine resources do not immediately spring to mind. As an island state with a marine area over twenty times the size of our land resources, the quest for comprehensive information regarding this impact is very relevant.

 

Dr Alan Deidun lectures Biology at Junior College, Msida, and has been lecturing on a casual basis at the University ofMalta for the past six years. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers on aspects relating to beach and coastal ecology, Marine Protected Areas, the local killifish species and the management of sand dune areas. He is a member of the Institute of Biology of London, the Marine Biological Association of the UK, and the SIBM in Italy. He has attended numerous conferences related to coastal and marine biology and organises regular short courses on natural heritage for Nature Trust and for the Foundation of International Studies in Valletta. He is also the author of a number of book chapters, and writes a fortnightly column on the environment in The Sunday Times.

 

The talk will take place at Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta, on Thursday 13th November at 18.00 hrs, and is open to the public.
