Din l-Art Ħelwa would like to remind applicants that submissions for the XVI Architectural Heritage Awards established by the organisation should be for projects completed in the last year up to 1st October 2021 and must be received at Din l-Art Ħelwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta by Friday 3rd December, 2021.

The Awards are an initiative set up by Din l-Art Ħelwa to encourage architectural excellence in a Maltese context, the rehabilitation and reuse of old buildings, and the recognition of the dedicated work of those active in the field of restoration.   The programme is carried out each year with the support of the Kamra tal-Periti.   It is hoped that this initiative will bring added motivation to all those working to enhance the rich architectural heritage of the Maltese islands and may inspire the public to recognise the potential value in traditional buildings rather than resort to their demolition.

Eligible projects will be considered in three categories: the regeneration of an area, the adaptation of historical buildings to new uses and the restoration and/or conservation of buildings. The projects can relate either to a single building, a complex of buildings, or to a historic urban environment or townscape. The project will be judged on the quality of the work executed, its historic, cultural, educational and social relevance, the preliminary research conducted and the aesthetic and visual merit.  The ‘Judge Maurice Caruana Curran Award’, will be awarded to the best winner overall in all categories, and this award was launched last year to mark the 55th Anniversary of the foundation of Din l-Art Ħelwa.  The project may be on a scale ranging from small to large and should display a standard of work which would be outstanding in a Maltese context.
